Main protagonist, very complex character 

Plots the heist and steals necklace 

He is represented as an underprivileged black, immigrant who used a set of skills he has built overtime to overcome the boundaries of social class and venge his fathers death. initially presented as a stereotypical immigrant with a lower class job and he is also a thief. 

Claire Durant 

Assane Diops ex wife and mother of his son 

she looks after his son while Assane is doing whatever he is up to. 

She represents a typical female, loving mum, stays at home with raoul and often is looking to keep assane right. Interestingly she is in a interracial relationship which was most likley uncommon of the time 

Anne pellegri 

Hubert pellegrinis wife 

it seems as though she feels the need to support her husband her symoathy for assane and Babakar when the theft of the jules of marie antoinette are stolen. once again you see typical motherly charactersitics shining through the front that she puts up infront of her husband. unlike Assane and Claire this is a typical relationship presenting male dominance withing their domestic life. However despite coming across as loving towards assane, her racists subconcious shows at the car scene where she assumes Babakar, her chafuer is robbing her simply due to his skin colour 

Babakar diop 

Assanes father

is the stem for assanes hate towards the pellegrinis due to his death 

commits suicide after being accused of theft, initally he is presented as a steryotypical immigrant working for hubert pellegrini and he is, racially motivated, accused of stealing the necklace.

intersectionality- not only is he a person of colour, but he is lower class, an immigrant. and it acts as a crossroad which makes him an incredibly oppressed character
