regulation and the 4th estate
The "Fourth Estate" is a traditional term for the news media viewed as a crucial, unofficial watchdog over the government and powerful institutions, alongside to the three traditional estates (clergy, nobility, commoners) of medieval society. It highlights the media's power to inform the public, influence policy, and hold politicians accountable, acting as a check on the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government in a democracy.
